Staff Spotlight: 7th grade teacher edition! 👩🏫✨
Ms. Weil shares the following fun facts about herself:
"I’m a mom of three! I am always at baseball or basketball for my 18 year old son, diving for my 12 year old son or chasing around my 1.5 year old daughter! In my free time I love to go to sunflower farms, cook and go for walks with my daughter or the dogs! 🐶 During each summer I go to Cubs games and pretty much live at the beach.
I’ve been a teacher for 12 years and teaching 7th grade for 5 years now and love every second of it."

During Hispanic Heritage Month, and all year, our school honors diversity. From research projects about the Latino/a cultural heritage, to life sized totem poles to honor the indigenous roots of many Latino/a people, the EL teachers at BPMS work hard to instill a sense of cultural pride in our students. Today we hear from our 6th grade EL teacher, Mrs. Kamphaus. #TeacherPointofView
She says, " I am a big believer in appreciating culture and history, especially when a child can discover pride about their country of origin. While, I may not be a Hispanic origin, I care deeply about my children 's exposure to texts about people who look like them. Hispanic Heritage month is the first perfect time for children to do. just that. My class is researching a famous person for Hispanic Heritage month and tonight I went to the Zion Benton Public Library for more resources. It was wonderful experience. I cannot wait to see the look on my students faces when they see how many books I found for this project today! A child needs to believe that they are a reader and it is the responsibility of the adults in their lives to expose them to books that interest them. Sign your child up for a ZBPL card today. Bilingual librarians in the children's section cannot wait to meet you."

The meeting for the Washington D.C. Trip is tomorrow! Ms. Aken and Ms. Kamphaus are so excited to see so many people sign up. Remember that you have to register for the meeting online whether you can or cannot make it. If we get ten more families interested, there will be a raffle in which one of our families will receive a discounted price for the trip!

The BPMS library has some great books on Hispanic Heritage! Check then out during library class or after school library (starting soon). Check google classroom to find out which day your grade has after school library. 🫶📖✅
Let's get reading! Read ten books by November for an excused library assignment.

7th grade art students overcame a creative art block by pre-planning their designs as they worked on shaping their wire sculptures in organic or geometric forms in order to then paint their design inside. #BPMSartstudentsROCK #BPMSartteachersROCK
