November Events at Zion-Benton Public Library for Kids and Teens!


Kindergarten students in Mrs. Winiger's class compared and contrasted two wordless books that they read. They used two hula hoops to make and fill in a Venn diagram. What a great hands on way to show their learning!

Kindergarten students in Mrs Kostal's class wrote their names in Play-Doh to practice writing and spelling their names! What a great hands-on way to practice!

1st grade students in Mrs. Brockways' class, worked with Ms. Sara to learn how to tie their shoes! They used a board that had laces on it to get hands on practice!

One of the most exciting things about our SIP days is the book buddies we have! Our 1st grade students buddy up with 4th graders to get to know each other, and do fun activities together! It's a great way for our students to develop relationships.





Thank you to Zion Benton District 126, Zion Elementary SD 6, Winthrop Harbor SD 1, and Beach Park SD 3, Superintendents and Board Members for coming together at tonight's Joint Board Meeting!





3rd grade students in Mrs. Johnson's class were practicing cooperative learning using arrays with the rally coach strategy. This cooperative learning strategy has students think out loud, and check it with their partner. This develops social skills and learning skills.




Ms. Strathmanns 4th grade students are decorating sugar skulls for day of the dead. This is a great and fun way for students to learn about the day of the dead!






Students in Mrs. Kostal's class are practicing the word to in shaving cream. They are practicing writing and read this important sight word. Great work friends!!!



Today The Frog Lady came to Oak Crest and showed students different reptiles and they even got to pet them. The students loved seeing them and petting them!





1st graders in Mrs Brockway's class were learning how to measure and learning how sound travels as a part of their math and science units! How fun and innovative these activities are!

Mrs. Kostal's class was doing a fun craft with beads and pipe cleaners that helped students work on motor skills. Great work!!

October Events at Zion-Benton Public Library for Kids and Teens


Today was our October SIP day with fun games and recognizing our students of the month. We also talked about what it means to be a leader, and how students will win special bee bucks if they are showing leadership qualities!!





4th grade students in Ms. Strathmanns' class are practicing base 10 using place value blocks that they made out of paper! What innovative learning!!







Students in Mrs. Campbells class celebrated passing their I-ready lessons with games and a cupcake party! Way to go!!

Kindergarten students in Ms. Zubecks and Mrs. Reddings class, built houses and cubes out of magnetic shapes (triangles and squares) that they are studying in their current math unit! What an amazing way of hands on learning!
