A message from Principal

Newport LetterheadDear Newport Parent/Guardian:

We have been off to a great start this year with good bus behavior. I wanted to remind returning families and let new families know about bus referrals. At Newport, we work hard to have safe and appropriate school bus behavior. In order to keep this goal we have a plan for students who receive bus referrals.

If your child receives a first or second bus referral he or she will be retrained in bus expectations and fill out a Think Sheet. He or she may also have bus retraining during recess in the office by Newport Staff for 1-2 days as a consequence. If we do not see a change in your child’s behavior, a suspension from the bus may be considered in addition to being retrained in the bus expectations.

Continued inappropriate bus behavior or behavior that jeopardizes student safety may be subject to additional days off of the bus. Our goal is for all of our students to be able to ride the bus to and from school in a safe manner. Please review the expectations listed below with your student and emphasize how important it is to have appropriate behavior on the bus. You may refer to the Elementary Parent Handbook for behavior expectations, found on the District website.
