Message from the Superintendent regarding Principal Change

Dear Kenneth Murphy Families,

I would like to take a moment and personally apologize for not communicating with all of you about Ms. Goedken’s resignation from her position, as Principal, at Kenneth Murphy Elementary School at the end of this school year.   I am tasked with many decisions everyday, and I do the absolute best I can, but sometimes I simply fall short, and when this does happen, I spend time reflecting so  I can make changes for the future.   Please know communication is a priority area in our District Strategic Plan and will continue to strive for improvement.

Ms. Goedken had asked how I would be communicating this to our families, and I had made the decision to share this news at the same time as when we hired and announced the new principal of Kenneth Murphy Elementary School.

If I had the opportunity to change how families found out about Ms. Goedken leaving, I would.  Ms. Goedken has led the building for the last two years, has worked closely with families and staff, and we appreciate her dedication to our students over the past three years here in Beach Park District 3.  We wish her the best in her future endeavors.

I would like to take this opportunity to share the process we will be implementing for hiring a new principal at Kenneth Murphy.  We will be doing screener interviews this week with District Leadership.  District Leadership will narrow the selection of candidates to 3-5 people.  On April 8, 2025, a committee of volunteer staff, parents, and administrators will interview the narrowed pool of candidates.  The top two candidates will be identified and then invited to interview with the other building principals in the District on Friday, April 11, 2025.  The final candidate will be recommended for hire at the Board Meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025.  If there are any changes to this process, I will update all of you as soon as possible.

I appreciate your partnership, and I again apologize for not communicating this sooner.  My door is always open and I welcome your feedback.

Sincerely,

Dr. Denise Wilcox

Superintendent
