Summer Learning

Dear Families,

As we head home for summer vacation, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you have done to support your child(ren) this school year. They have grown so much, and it’s been wonderful to see all of the learning that has taken place in our classrooms. We would like to ensure that students continue to learn and grow over the summer months, so we have learning opportunities for all of our students this summer!

If your child is in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade, a Summer Backpack will be sent home the last week of school. In the backpack you will find several items:

  • The Kids Learn! full-color resource featuring reading, writing, and mathematics worksheets and an introduction section for parents with tips and strategies to strengthen the school-home connection.

  • A curated selection of high-interest, fiction and nonfiction books from across key content areas keep students reading over the summer while strengthening content-area literacy.

  • A Family Engagement Guide that helps facilitate deeper parent involvement and support.

These items are meant to reinforce learning and bridge the away-from-school gap in instruction over the summer. Here are links to videos that will explain the resources in much greater detail and explain how you can help your child(ren) with summer learning!

English: Take-Home Backpacks                                 Spanish: Take-Home Backpacks

If you have a child going into Sixth through Eighth grade, there is also a required summer learning project that was explained during their library class by our district librarian, Ms. Aken. The students will pick a Rebecca Caudill book of their choice to read and complete one of the project choices when finished reading. All of the information can be found here: Summer Reading 2024.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Have a great summer full of fun and learning!

Sincerely,

Traci Griffiths
