Press Release

It is with great excitement we announce the appointment of the new principal of Kenneth Murphy Elementary School, Mrs. Megan Goedken. Mrs. Goedken has spent the last year at the middle school as an assistant principal and is truly honored to be part of this community.   Mrs. Goedken has worked with Beach Park School District 3 in her previous roles in education, first when she was at the ROE Regional Safe School Program (RSSP) and secondly while working for SEDOL. She began her career at the RSSP as a behavioral interventionist and teacher.  Her last two years at the RSSP she served as the principal, which was super rewarding and led to her next endeavor, middle school principal at SEDOL’s South School, a middle school for students with behavioral disabilities.  She can’t wait for the challenges and rewards the next school year will bring.

Mrs. Goedken grew up in a very small town in Northwestern Iowa called Sac City.  So if you ever find yourself driving 8 hours west on Highway 20 make sure you make a pitstop at the world record-holding largest ball of popcorn and ask her for recommendations on restaurants and truck stops.  She met her husband (Matt) who grew up in Mundelein, at Iowa State. They moved to Illinois after Matt’s graduation and she finished her teacher preparation at Northeastern Illinois University.  They have two spunky boys (Nolan-11 and Seth-9).  They both have very unique personalities and keep her on her toes, especially when she takes them to their weekly Taekwondo class which she participates in as well.

Mrs. Goedken will be a great addition to the administrative team in Beach Park and will be able to continue the great work at Kenneth Murphy Elementary School, leading students and staff toward a successful future.  We welcome Mrs. Goedken to the Beach Park Administrative Team and look forward to her leadership in the 2023-2024 school year!

Respectfully,

Dr. Denise A. Wilcox, Interim Superintendent of Beach Park School District #3
