Safety Communication

Dear Beach Park Families,

This morning, during a scheduled fire drill, the fire alarm system at Beach Park Middle School did not activate the horns and strobes, although the system did successfully notify the fire department. Out of caution, we placed the school on a “Fire Watch” while the alarm company worked to repair the system.

The alarm company will begin repairs later this afternoon. If the fire alarm system can be repaired, we will return to school tomorrow.

However, if the alarm cannot be fixed today, the Winthrop Harbor Fire Marshal has made it clear that we will be unable to operate in person tomorrow. We will make this determination by 7:00 p.m. this evening, whether we will proceed with eLearning or in-person instruction on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.  FYI, this communication only applies to Beach Park Middle School; all other Beach Park schools will be in person.

If eLearning is required tomorrow, students will be expected to use their BPMS Chromebooks to attend their regular classes virtually. Teachers will provide Google Meet links in their Google Classroom, and attendance will be taken during each class period. Please take a moment tonight to charge your Chromebooks and discuss a plan with your student on how they will access their classes for tomorrow, should this be necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership. We understand this is unexpected and inconvenient. However, we appreciate your support as we continue to prioritize safety for our students and staff, always.

In Partnership,

Dr. Denise Wilcox
