Dear Families,

In just one week, we will be welcoming your child(ren) back to the school building. This week, we had our second annual Transition Camp, and the building was alight with laughter. It was such a joy to have students back in the building. In preparation, I wanted to make note of a few things related to the first week of school:

Expectations

  • Grade Level Administrators will be sending an update with expectations related to tardiness, breakfast, attendance, and more.

  • Beach Park Middle School is a no cell phone building. Students can have them on their person; however, active use will result in confiscation for an adult family member to pick up. Social Media and cell phone use compromises safety in the building. If you need to get a hold of your child, please call the main office.

  • We maintain that “if you go hands on, you go home” at the middle school. Many of our staff are parents and understand that roughhousing is part of growing up; however, we do not have the staff to supervise that. Also, please remind your child to get help if they are experiencing conflict in the building to avoid a situation that eventually results in a hands on confrontation. We have a peer mediation room, social workers, admin, and staff all ready to support our students.

  • Attendance is vitally important for your child’s success. Please remember that medical excuses for absences prevent truancy referral risks. After ten absences, we will be requiring doctor’s notes for excusal. Three consecutive absences requires a doctor's note.

  • In order to be guaranteed participation in end of year activities, students must be in attendance at a minimum of 80% of our SIP Day Celebrations. Suspensions and In School Suspensions will result in exclusion from SIP Day. Additionally, any suspension close to the end of the year may also result in exclusion from end of year activities.

  • Students may not order or have delivered by family or other means, shared meals of any kind. Families may bring an individual meal for their child.

  • Beach Park Middle School is a latex free building to accommodate severe allergies. No balloons, rubber bands, gloves, tennis balls, etc. can be in the building.

Open House

  • Open House is August 20th from 5:00pm-6:30pm.

  • All new to district and incoming 6th grade families are to report to the cafeteria at 5:00pm promptly for the required parent meeting.

  • Please print or screen capture your child’s schedule. If your child’s registration is not complete, their schedule will not be available.

  • Please do not report to the main office. Families are to go directly to their child’s grade level wing.

First Week

  • All drop off/pick up students must be dropped off and picked up in front of the school. Please be mindful that many families will drive their children the first week of school, slowing down the line.

  • Buses will likely run late. BPD3 contracts with Durham School Services, which will need time to ensure their routes are divided appropriately to accommodate families. Please be patient.

We are thrilled to have your child back in the building. Our greatness is ready to shine! Remember, Love is Limits, Consistency is Key, and Learning is Not Optional!

Our kids can, just watch ‘em!
